Portuguese Style Knitting - Saturday all day (9-12 and 1-4)
Instructor: Andrea Wong

Class size:  10-25 students, adult.

During this workshop, knitters will have the oppurtunity to learn and practice the style of knitting the instructor uses,  popular in Greece, Portugal, Egypt and Turkey.  The main characteristic is that the yarn is either wrapped behind the neck or looped through a pin attached to the shoulder in order to maintain a tension which is constant.

The advantages of knitting this way are:  It is faster than either the American or continental styles.  It requires less hand movement--great for those suffereing from arthritis or carpal tunnel syndrome. It helps maintain constant tension, even for beginners.  Blind knitters are overjoyed because they always know where the yarn is -- it is never dropped.

Students should bring: knitting needles, yarn.

Instructor will provide: 2 knitting pins, 1 hat pattern.

Materials fee [to be paid to instructor on class day]:  $10

Experience needed: basic knitting skills, ability to cast on, knit, purl, bind off.
